Position Summary
The Master Control Operator (MCO) is responsible for monitoring and controlling the on-air transmission of programming and commercial content across multiple television stations and subchannels. This role ensures seamless broadcast execution, compliance with FCC regulations, and high technical standards across all station feeds.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, multi-channel environment and demonstrates strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and independent decision-making skills.

This position operates in a 24/7 broadcast environment. Operators must be available for varied shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and control on-air signals for multiple broadcast stations and subchannels
- Operate and manage broadcast automation systems across station properties
- Ensure accurate playout of programming, commercials, promos, EAS alerts, and graphics
- Switch live programming and breaking news feeds as directed
- Ingest and prepare content for air across multiple stations
- Maintain accurate FCC and station logs
- Perform quality assurance checks for audio, video, and closed captioning
- Troubleshoot technical issues and escalate to engineering as needed
- Coordinate with traffic, programming, and news departments
- Execute special event broadcasts and network join/leave procedures
- High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Technology, Communications, or related field preferred
- 1+ years of master control or broadcast operations experience preferred
- Experience with multi-channel automation systems (Florical)
- Working knowledge of FCC rules and compliance requirements
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to remain composed during technical disruptions
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Video servers, routers, and switchers
- Satellite and IP-based feed monitoring
- Audio/video signal analysis
- Basic networking and IT troubleshooting
This position operates in a 24/7 broadcast environment. Operators must be available for varied shifts including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer workstation and broadcast monitoring equipment.
- Manual dexterity required to operate broadcast control panels, keyboards, and other technical systems with precision.
- Visual ability (with or without correction) to monitor multiple video and audio streams and detect technical issues or signal irregularities.
- Auditory ability (with or without aids) to monitor audio quality and detect anomalies across radio and television signals.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds (e.g., cables, drives, backup media).
- Mobility to move within a technical operations environment, including access to equipment racks, consoles, and related systems.
- Ability to work varied hours, including overnight, weekends, and holidays, in support of 24/7 broadcast operations.
